Privacy Policy

ytd ("the App") is a macOS menu-bar app that downloads YouTube videos you choose to your Mac, developed and operated by N0AGI LLC. ytd is not affiliated with or endorsed by YouTube or Google.

The short version: ytd has no servers, no accounts, no analytics and no tracking. It connects only to YouTube, to fetch the playlists and videos you ask for. Summaries are written on your Mac, and everything ytd keeps stays on your Mac.

Data We Collect

The App does not collect, transmit, or share any personal information. There is no account, no analytics SDK, no crash reporting, no advertising and no telemetry. Nothing you do in ytd is sent to N0AGI.

Network Connections

ytd connects only to YouTube, through its bundled download engine (yt-dlp), and only to:

Read the playlist whose link you saved in Settings, on the schedule you chose, when your Mac wakes, or when you click Sync now.
Download videos from that playlist, and single videos whose link you paste or copy and send with the ⌃⌥Y shortcut.

ytd does not sign in to YouTube or Google and stores no YouTube cookies. As with any website, YouTube can see your Mac's IP address when ytd fetches from it; that is governed by Google's own privacy policy.

Summaries and Tags

ytd writes a short summary and tags for each video from its title, description, channel and chapter titles, using Apple's on-device Foundation Models. ytd uses the on-device model only; this text is not sent to Apple, N0AGI or anyone else.

What ytd Reads

The clipboard, only at the moment you press the ⌃⌥Y shortcut, to find a video link. Nothing else on the clipboard is kept.
The folder you choose for your library, to check which downloaded files are still there.

What ytd Stores on Your Mac

Videos and .nfo files: in the library folder you choose (by default ~/Movies/ytd), in its Playlist and Singles folders. Videos removed from your playlist move to _archive there.
Library catalog: video titles, channels, summaries, tags and file locations, in ~/Library/Application Support/ytd/catalog.sqlite.
Activity log: a timestamped list of syncs, downloads and errors, in ~/Library/Application Support/ytd/activity.log (the last 1,000 lines). It leaves your Mac only if you copy it yourself, for example into a support email.
Preferences: your playlist link, check interval, library folder, appearance and Open at Login choice.

Files ytd Changes

ytd writes only inside your library folder. Sync never deletes a file: videos removed from your playlist are moved to _archive. When you delete a video in the Library, or choose to during Reset, its files are moved to the Trash, where you can still recover them.

macOS Permissions

ytd asks to send notifications, to tell you when downloads start and finish. Open at Login, if you turn it on, adds ytd to System Settings › General › Login Items. You can change both at any time in System Settings.

Third Parties

ytd contains no third-party SDKs: no analytics, crash reporting, advertising or social SDKs. It bundles open-source components (yt-dlp, Deno, FFmpeg, and the Inter and JetBrains Mono fonts), which run entirely on your Mac and are listed on the ytd page.

Children's Privacy

The App does not collect information from anyone, including children under 13. ytd is a utility app intended for general audiences.

Data Deletion

Settings › Reset ytd… clears the Library and every setting (keeping a dated backup of the catalog) and can move your downloaded videos to the Trash. To remove everything:

Delete the App.
Delete the folder ~/Library/Application Support/ytd/ and any ytd-reset-backup-… folders next to it.
Delete your library folder (by default ~/Movies/ytd) if you no longer want the videos.

Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a revised "Last updated" date.
